True, just watching how emotional vets from WWII get today talking about what happened back then....65+ years ago. It would have to be one hell of a traumatic experience. But, I am sure active duty are going thru the same now.

The beginning of Saving Pvt. Ryan, where Ryan (with his family) is at the grave site of the Captain (Tom Hanks) and he breaks down...brings a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes!

I'm a Life Member of VFW Post 9892 Bauang, Philippines. There are three groups of members there. There are the ones leftover from their active duty days and stayed behind and wouldn't leave no matter what. I actually have three old shipmates still there, one being the Post Commander. Then there are the ones that retired and came back and settled in for life and then the ones like myself that split their time between the states and PI. I go to the Post every few days to see what's happening and have lunch. It can be a bit of a challege to get a good American hamburger. All I can say is for those that have never been there will never know what they have missed. Those that have been there want to return. There is a reason it is called "The Land of Smiles"

I'll never say i don't enjoy my extended visits, but the truth be known. My lovely wife of 37 years and I support a grand daughter who is now in her 3rd year of medical school in the Philippines. It is not easy, as one of us is there all the time. Should be able to finish in a couple more years with her post grad work here in the states. It's all good, with lots of friends and plenty of adventures exploring the back country. And of course there are still plenty of joints where a old guy can get a cold beer and watch the girls dance. lol
