stock thermostat in the cummins is a 190*. He said what happened, I just thought he never realized it ran at 200* warmed up.

i get uncomfortable with any of my motors running above 180*. But the cummins lose mpg with the lower thermostats because of being temp controlled from the factory with the ecm.

On a '06 truck thats banging miles. Gotta love the durability of a 360ci straight 6.

My temps runs at 190-200, which is normal. And my cummins is an '06 too but I have 290,000 miles less on mine. Lol

Be glad you never had a rotary engine car. Those things run 215-220 normally. 200 is a very average temp for a car, mine sits a 204-206 when idling or running. It drops down to about 200 even when at speed. If an engine gets too cold after warming up, it can actually trip a code and the engine will go into an open fuel loop mode, which it does to try and warm it back up. It's the same mode your car is in from a cold start, and it wastes a lot of gas.

IDK what my 4.7 runs at temp wise, since I don't have any numbers on my temp gauge. All I can tell you is running at 65 or below with the AC on, I run about two needle widths below the half way mark, If I am running over 65 it will run dead on the half way mark.
