Default For you extended oil change interval guys and gals...
Just read the NAPA monthly special and they say that coming soon to the NAPA branded (which are WIX) filters, they are adding a new "Platinum" filter, for guys who run their synthetics at extended oil change intervals...

Adam, DancingWaters uses a pair of remote filters and changes his oil once a year. I don't know what his anual mileage is, maybe he will chime in. But IMO this is an excellent setup as the remote filters act as addition coolers for the oil and allows for easy replacement as they are mounted in front of the radiator down low.

Man, changing oil once a year would make me nervous...that being said though, if he is using a high quality oil, blended so that he can run it that long, then thats great.

Same goes with the filters, I hope is is using one with a trusted coil spring set up for the bypass valve and not those with that jamming prone leaf spring, like Fram and some other filters use.

I swear by Wix/NAPA filters...

I also choose NOT to run a full synthetic engine oil in my truck, I run a blend (Castrol GTX High Mileage), which I believe is better suited for my ole 318

I just saw this but my brothers crown vic came from a police dept here in FL that was experimenting with these "million mile" filters, they attached to some oil line up under the hood, well his started leaking and spraying oil all over the underside of the hood so we looked into what the hell it was and found out about the test. Kinda makes you wonder if they were changing the oil on that thing at all.

when you do the remote filter deal are you also going with a high volume pump or running them off stock?

I wonder if the platinum filter will be plain jane too...like the gold. LOL

My problem is it takes forever for me to put 3000 miles on my truck. Not sure if I should change it at a fixed time interval because of that. Thoughts?

I don't know if the 6.1 pump has more flow or not, it is a standard upgrade for folks doing cam swaps. Daniel probably is using a 6.1 pump. The vulnerbility comes from the exposed hoses and really should be high quality braided to reduce any ballooning.

Yeah, no doubt on that...it would be pretty messy to have one break loose on ya going down the road.

Well I know you CAN...... But....

Even though I use full synthetic in MOST of our rides; I still change at 3,000 miles.... but not 3 months though! Hopefully MY RIDES will last!
