Storytime: My wife is from the Philippines and many years ago when we first moved out into the sticks, people would look at her and ask her the oddest of things. But it was their way of asking where she was from. Anyway I was talking to this old woman who’s main adventure was to come across the creek bottom and get married. I think the actual meaning meant more than what was actually said. But anyway, she looks at me and says your woman ain’t from around here is she? I replied No, she’s from the Philippines. The old woman spit on the ground, looked at me and said “yep I thought she was from one of them big cities”
