I put $20 worth of 89 in my truck yesterday. It seems to be running better, should I start running 89 in it from now on?

What's the specs? Ya only need the octane if it's built for it.

It says 87 but i would think a higher octane would help out

Not necessarily... I run 93 octane in mine and it's far from built

You only need the octane to prevent detonation which depends how aggressive the timing curve is and thus the tune. Otherwise just a waste IMHO

Mark do you notice any difference running 93 over other octane?

So 87 or 89?

I have the truck at the 91 tune with the diablo and run 93, it gives me a tiny mileage bump but thats about it.

Running 93 got rid of the little stumble at idle my truck had at idle and it pulls a little better that when I was running 87

I say try 87 and see if you have any detonation and if so then go up a grade. But if it's designed for 87 then ya should be fine.

I've been running 87 the whole time, and it pings a bit under accelration. That's why I want to upgrade to 89 and see if that fixes it

jst put 10 gal in there and run it. it will be fine. the only time you should have a problem is running less of an octane constantly. i have ran 87 in my hemi under desperate circumstances and had no problems what so ever.

when i worked in colorado i would add a quart of methanol to every tank in my brand new 08 and my 02 envoy. i put some in my 05 hemi, i only had a scary experience with the 02 envoy the very first time i ran it but it sorted itself out and ran like a champ. i have no idea what methanol will raise the octane to

89 it is, I think it's worth the extra couple of bucks to save the engine from detonation and might also get a little bit better mileage and performance

2 octane up wont hurt

Methanol has a very high octane level. It was one of the things I talked about on the tuning thread. Instead of running CAM2 with an aggressive timing use the methanol injection at a hugh savings. I use 93 octane with a SC91 canned tune with the power wire and still get a little kr at WOT. Methanol inj should take care of the kr and I might beable to use 89 octane iinstead of 93. We will see.

Sounds like that's what ya should do if ping at 87 :) also might want to check when was your last tune up? Maybe run some sea foam through the engine to clean things up... I run a bottle of Lucas every month just to keep injectors clean.
