I would recommend sealing the filter to an direct outside cool air source in order to avoid sucking in the hot engine compartment air.... See link below.

I've made quite a few now. Basically anybody who's willing to buy the parts and come by with a six pack or two, I'll make one for or help them make one.

A couple I've done:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll301/hammerz71/0501001701.jpg

even made one and shipped it up to the northeast, ready for gluing and painting (still waiting to get reimbursed for materials and shipping on that one)!

i agree manufactured does look great, and it comes already with all the parts needed for install. I had bought mine for about 80 bucks on stylintrucks.com a little while back.

i have the exact same intake, got mine off carpartswholesale.com for 72 shipped great lil intake especially bang for buck ratio. i think im gonna paint mine, along with replace the filter with a aem dryflow....

car_enthusiast63
09-17-2010, 11:21 PM
OO yea deffinitely great bang for your buck, its the same thing as the top name brands out there without the high price. What would be the benefit of switching the filter to the aem dryflow?

BAD HABIT
09-18-2010, 10:01 AM
just a better filter than what the kit came with, the filter isn't too bad but a good filter like aem or k&n would be better...

Ok gotcha, ill look into that, i think its about time i change or clean mine anyways so why not upgrade to something better? lol

The truck has a K&N FIPK CAI (it was expensive, but definitely the best bang for the buck. You cant go wrong with K&N...)

Gentlemen, a similar thread on another forum is getting a lot of attention and I thought we might bring this one back to life. The Vararam is said to have some quality issues and the homemade's are cost effective and the others have their pro'd and cons.

I have a K&N-77 wrapped with isulation and it delivers ambient temperature air. Is there more a guy can ask from a CAI?

With that said, if I was to do it again I would have kepted the OEM air box and just installed a Airaid Jr tube, with the top hat removed.

So what are you running and do you like it?

I saw where the OEM airbox was used with the Airaid Jr pipe and the owner (Sil) moved the IAT to the outlet of the airbox. This looks good, but also would give the lowest signal before giving the air a chance of heating up. It wouldn't cool the inlet air but would provide the best signal.

i seen a guy at my work doing some counters, had the banks setup on his ram with the super scoop, i hope you place it better, it was on a stock height 2500 cummins, and it seemed low to me....i know your jacked up but it hung like 4" below the bumper....

Does a super scoop really do anything when you are running a turbo?

4"? It's only like 2" top to bottom of the bottom opening, I thought. And there is only one correct location to place it. Was it a stock height 2WD 2500?

It's about like any intake Greg, cooler air is better than warm, engine bay air.

Lee, what does your intercooler look like? Is there something that can be done to lower the temperature by modding it. And of course there is always this to cool things down.

^ replace it with a banks, BD, artic...there's a ton of brands out there. and yes, methanol injection will cool it too. there are so many things I would love to do with it, but with a diesel performance mods are HIGH dollar. One step at a time....

I made mine from the same PVC but i cut the joints off, beveled the ends, plastic welded them together, sanded, filled, sanded, primed and painted mine.

remember guys on the 2nd gen magnums they dont use a IAT (intake air temp) to determine fueling, its referenced but thats it, they use the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor to determine fueling, basically its a giant air compressor, the faster you get the air in and out the more power and performance. thus why youll see alot of guys such as myself using a 14x3 round air cleaner as opposed to a "CAI"

the less restrictive the airflow the better on both the intake and exhaust sides.
