I went out to install my off road lights today behind my grille...after looking there is no way to mount them like Colton did on his grille...however, there are tow opening on each side of my HUGE FREAKING evaporator coil that they will fit into...I am going to take some "L" brackets and mount them in those two pockets...which leads to my dilemma...I have a hammer drill that will get through the core support easily, but if I slip it could cost me a radiator...so I am thinking about JB welding the "L" brackets on...do yall think it would be tacky? Here is a pic of the area I am working with...

I didnt think you could install lights behind the grille on the 2nd gens??? I have seen some on the outside of the grille ontop of the bumper.

Thats what I really wanna do...this is one of those time that one of those cheap $99 wire welders would be a lifesaver...

You could JB weld the "L" brackets in place, let it set long enough to hold the weight of the lights, mount them, and if you don't like the way they look, pull the brackets off before the JB weld is completely set.

Well since you painted the lights to match I would put them outside. If the lights were black I would say put them behind the grille, that way they were hidden. Also remember behind the grille you will have some light output obstruction. Just my .02cents

Plus drilling 2 holes will be alot easier than welding or making brackets etc. ;)

You're exactly right...I am starting to lean towards mounting them on the bumper, so all my Duplicolor skills can be viewed....

or you goto home cheapo grab a 3' whatever the length is angle iron shaped like a "L" stretch it from core support to core support, drill a few holes and bolt it onto the truck and then mount the lights behind the grill to the angle iron....

cant do that...the thickness of the a/c evaporator coil is the same thickness as the core support rails...I have to use "L" brackets only...no room for anything in front of the evaporator coil...I have never seen an evap coil as big as this one...

Keep it simple, simple is what always works.

I recommend using a self drilling screw to drill the hole it will drill quickly cheap to replace and will not go threw the metal more than 1/8 inch so no puncture cause the threads stop it

I say black because black and that color you have looks good together. Sorry forgot the color name of your truck lol

It's actually Claret Red Pearl Metallic...thinking about it, black would stand out better than the chrome would, seeing as we have HUGE chrome bumpers....

plus it matchs the small amounts of black trim you have on your truck ;)
