Looks like I will be getting a new alternator this weekend...my volts are fine driving down the road...but when I stop at a red light or something my volts plummet. Been doing it all week but it got so bad tonight that it tripped the GEN light on my cluster...

I had to replace mine in my 93 Dakota and I always call both Auto Zone and Advance Auto to see who has the best deal and I bought mine at Advance Auto for $99 + tax. Of course mine was the highest output one and the cheapest any where else was $129.99 + tax!

When YOU take yours in; be sure to have them check for proper voltage to insure you get the proper one for your ride!

my envoy did something similar and it ended up being a lose battery connection. have them test the alt before you replace it its free and saved me money

^^X2 A bad ground or loose positive cable will cause the same symptoms as a faulty alternator. Check your main ground and clean any corrosion from your terminals

I cleaned them real good when this all first started...I am gonna have them test both the batt and alt before I buy anything.

Well, had the alternator tested today...failed the diode test...which I figured it would...cause the diodes are actually what trigger the "GEN" light on our dashes...

That's what we do have it tested and buy what is bad i always replace the battery when i change alt. went through 3 remaned ones on my impala before we got a good one and they were the most expensive ones of the remaned. Can't imagine what one for my cummins will be the starter was well over 250.00$.

I just replaced mine as well, I went the Advanced Auto Parts route as there are nothing but a bunch of clowns in the Autozone by me. I went ahead and got the heavy duty 136 amp alternator. Make sure to keep your receipt for the lifetime warranty!

My alt is from Advance too, but our store logs your warranty like Autozone does....no receipt needed, just your phone #
