Any users of Marvel Mystery Oil? Was thinking of trying it out in my CTD.

Thanks,

I have used in older trucks for the ZDDP benefits...why are you looking to add it in your Cummins?

ZDDP?

Yes...One of the guys on my other forum says he tried it in his 08 Cummins and saw some benefits to it.

ZDDP is Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphate...the EPA has made is just about non existant in our oils and it's beneficial to older engines. Products like MMO, Lucas etc, have higher amount of ZDDP, also Shell Rotella T has more than others also.

We blend and package a product here called "Engine Armour." What we did is take Lucas and brought it to our lab here at our oil plant and had them break it down. We basically copied their formula, additive for additive.

I however strongly discourage using oil additives of any sort in any engine. Especially, modern engines. We as oil companies spend MILLIONS and MILLIONS trying to blend the best engine oil around, using additives that we use. If there was anything to make a multi viscosity oil better, we would simply add it to our blends.

The thing to remember when using additives is that adding them to your oil can throw off the balance of additives we have blended into the oil, thus creating a chance that over time, can lead to premature damage to your engine.

I'd be interested to see if your friend has any real proof that the MMO benefitted the way his engine runs...not calling your friend untruthful, but most of the oil additives on the market today are pure horse hockey and if you want to believe hard enough something is benefitting you, chances are you'll believe it so much you'll think it actually worked when it never made a difference.

Now, if we are talking about adding it to fuel, that's a whole nother story. But remember, MMO is not campatible with 2007 and newer diesel engine sulfer requirements.

Yes...Was just referring to its use as a fuel additive only. Saw the warning on the MMO web site. Was wondering if it would hurt the motor some how?

Ok, sorry about the biography I posted then, lol. For your fuel, I would suggest AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate Performance Fuel Additive, over anything else.

I wish we made a diesel fuel additive here at our plant, but we do not.

I use Power Serve myself...usually only when towing (higher cetane). Not sure if it really does anything at all...peace of mind I guess that it is helping.

On the other forum user was saying that it quieted the motor and did increase his MPG...

Have you thought about using Amsoils Cetane Boost Additive? I would use it in conjunction with the Diesel Concentrate I posted above.

I bought some Lucas fuel additive and put in my truck awhile back. It was an impulse buy and the only reading I did on the product was what was on the bottle, thus I had no previous notion that it would work. But I have to tell you, I am convinced it quieted my engine a little and improved mpg's some as well.

Yeah, like I said, fuel additives are a whole different deal, due to the fact that fuel quality greatly differs from one terminal to the next.

My brother swears by Lucas in his 05 F250. I have tried it once and did not see any noticeable gains. But, only tried it once. Going to give MMO a try this coming weekend. Will be doing some towing...should be a good test.

Lee, Have you tried the Power Service?

There are a few on DOF who use "Drew's Brew"; mix 16oz of PS and 8oz of MMO together. I am going to try MMO next weekend and see how it works. Then try some Dave's Brew next.

Hey Adam...

Why do you recommend the Amsoil product?

No Smitty, I have not tried the PS.
