I know it is mostlikely posted some where on here but i was wondering if any one knew. Are the bolts for the water pump torque to yield? Sucks not having all the tools you need at hand if they are torque to yield.

Yeah not the first water pump i have replaced. Put a whole lot more parts i have to take off to do it. Makes me long for the LT1 i use to work on lol. If my luck goes the way it has for every thing else i have fixed on this i will bet i break at least 2 off removing them. should be a lot of fun.

i hear that instead of breaking (which does happen) and it not your first water pump (understood) trick always works on everything i ever had to build ,replace,or work on get all the bullshit out the way, soak it with pb blaster, wrap the water pump it med hammer ball pean, smack or tap each bolt head, they will back right out.....

I'll have to try the ball pean trick.

I had to replace one on my Gen1 S10...some dumbass put torx head bolts on it...talk about fun. I ended up having to use and angle grinder and grinding the pump off from around the torx bolts, then using vise grips to remove the bolts.

yeah some asshole would do that on my first dakota r/t i bought in 98' from the factory they use a torx head style bolt on the wp.....i would have liked to found who ever build that and smacked the hell out of them

They aren't TTY bolts you can reuse them. If I recall correctly only the intake manifold bolts were TTY an should be replaced everytime you remove the manifold.

You are trying to break it loose in the proper direction, right? Those are reverse threaded.

(not trying to make you sound like you don't know what you're doing, just trying to help you out)

yeah i know it just wouldn't budge did every thing but put heat on it. Three days of spraying it with deep creep. The rest will be a breeze.

I can post pics of the job going backwards once i finish. taking my time doing it right.
To get the clutch fan off we had to hit it with a air chisel for about 5 minutes then we got it off.
