They need to put it on a diet.....waaay too heavy. I'm not convinced on the "nothing can challenge it" comment...

Umm look at the others. It's lighter than the zr1 and the srt8 by a lot mustangs are the lightest by far since there is a 5.0 running 9s NA

I've seen a supercharged 6.1 in a Challenger putting out over 800 HP... pretty sure it could compete

Only thing about that is supposedly ford put on the smallest pulley that can fit that supercharger so you would probably have to get a new supercharger right away but mustangs have one of the largest aftermarkets so it probably isn't gonna be an issue

Challengers are heavy beasts well over 4500 lbs [closer to 5000 or more i'll check it out]. i love them but i would buy a Mustang instead power to weight ratio and price the mustang wins in my book.

Nice car. My son is into Mustangs. I think to each their own. If you like something there is no problem with that. The HP is for the HP War that Ford, Dodge, & Chevy are playing to get people to buy their cars. It is all about what you what out of a car. WE don't have an Autobahn so what good is 200 mph. It would be cool to say your ride can do it, but where are you going to show it.

I stand corrected these are 2010 weights, the challenger is a pig by compairison to the others.

corvette-3333#
mustang-3605#
camaro-3849#
challenger srt8-4132# [rt is 100# lighter]

all v8 cars.

Exactly. Unless it'll do it in a 1/4 there's not much point to it other than bragging rights.
If chevy didn't have the camaro and dodge didn't have the challenger, I highly doubt ford would've done that with the mustang

The challenger started the whole thing [perfect copy],ford tried with the t bird [which was a huge failure] but knocked it out of the park with the stang and the camaro is just butt ugly [does not resemble the original at all]. I think that dodge and ford are both equil in looks, interior. But chevrolet does have a horsepower edge even with that the camaro sucks. They just want to sell cars and retro/muscle style sells [us old farts trying to relive our childhood] and the younger generation can get a muscle car that is fast and drivable right off the showroom floor and can be modded to become ungodly depending on how deep your pockets are. My son is a mustang lover along with imports so i have no choice but to work on them.

In the end the bottom line is its still a Mustang. One of bazillion on the street.

For the price of a new GT i would buy it before any other new socalled muscle car plus with the amount of aftermarket applications you would have one hellofa hotrod, besides i don't like corvettes, vipers period. And a challenger [my favorite] is too expensive for what it is and the aftermarket is slim and expensive.

650hp + RWD Mustang = no traction. 530hp + AWD GT-R = 0-60 in 3.5sec. The look on a GT500 owners face when a 3.8L turbo V6 smokes them............................ priceless :laughing1:

Your exactly right but the gtr is only about how much more than a gt 500? Somehow i fail to see a comparison we are talking about somewhat affordable muscle cars here i thought.Nick is right base gt with 10-12k invested and your in the 9s and still come out cheeper than a gt500,srt8 challenger, vette, viper.

You can pick up 2 year old GT-r's all day for $60k. Also your 9sec GTs are only good in a straight line. What about curves? You wouldn't want to drive your 9sec GT on a cross country road trip like you could a GT-r. The GT-r is just the complete package. I personally don't see the appeal of going fast in a straight line. Hell you can make any car quick in a straight line. I like cars that can take a turn at a decent speed :birgits_tiredcoffee

Silverbullet08
11-17-2011, 06:58 PM
who wants a used car? :D and yea that was for the straight like but the boss and laguna seca editions stangs are just as good on the strip as the track!

edit: I think the gtr is badass. i just dont think the too cars are apples to apples to compare

Fla 66 cuda
11-17-2011, 07:52 PM
I agree the gtr is my sons and my favorite import speed/hp demon but we are talking american muscle. Going straight is very kool, but road courses are exciting and demand concentration my son likes that type of driving, when he had his 240sx thats the type of roads he looked for hammerdown and drive.

Its really all just abunch of talk until they really put it to the test. I'd like to see that mustang vs a supercharged 392 and a supercharged 6.2 camaro. Then we will see who really wins...

Silverbullet08

Dude no offense but the challengers are heavy and a 5.0 can easily beat one

Fla 66 cuda
11-17-2011, 08:15 PM
We are talking about factory cars off the showroom floor not heavly built cars with a ton of aftermarket parts, you may be right a challenger may beat a stang after you throw a supercharger on it and a good tune ect. There is a guy here that has an 06-07 srt8 challenger close to 900 hp at the wheels does 8.75 quarters, twin turbocharged monster but it cost him he has well over 150,000.00 in it [includes purchase price] so i suppose it can be done, speeds only a question of money how fast do you want to go?

txbass06
11-17-2011, 08:17 PM
I'd be willing to bet Chevrolet does a little tweaking to the ZL1 before it comes out now

You're exactly right...when it comes to racing, the guy with the most money will win 9 out of 10 times.

I dunno how long they'll stick with that though. We had one of the ZL1 project supervisors in at the dealership I work at in today that was giving us a little info on it and he told us not to get comfortable with the pricing or performance numbers he gave us. He said "things are likely to change to keep up with competitors"

Now how much of this I believe is another story lol

Over 8 million Mustangs produced since 64 compared to under 200,000 Challengers and under 30,000 Vipers. "My point" is, I can count a dozen Stangs on the way to the grocery.... the Mopars are more of a rarity. A bazillion Mustangs = boring. A supercharged Mustang = overpriced boring:roflsquared:

Yupp in big cities everything is dime in a dozen. Lambos, ferraris, maseratis, mustangs, camaros, challengers, etc. I actually see more camaros and vettes where I live than mustangs and I live in a relatively small population area(less than 200,000)
