Someone removed the hitch from my truck before I bought it so i have been looking around for a cheap used one to throw on there temporarily. I found a hitch on Craigslist that off of a 06 2500, will that fit my 1500? I don't know the brand or anything else he couldn't tell me much. I am gonna go look at it and was just curious....

You would have to mock it up, dealers around here take em off cause they get stolen, they should have put it back on, I had the place I bought my truck from put a new one on cause they couldn't find the right one

Sent from my badass EVO on TapaTalk....

I don't think the dealer took mine off, I made sure they gave me everything and no hitch. The guy told me the hitch he has bolts to the top of the frame rails? Does that sound familiar?

Yes, to put the factory assembly on you have to lift the bed to install the cross member. With that said the cross member is usually already installed from the factory. I have never seen a truck without the cross member. I removed my cross member and factory hitch to install a roll pan and hidden hitch. If you cannot find one locally I'll sell you mine complete with cross member for $75 plus shipping. Shipping will be a killer. Good luck..

Ok I think I may be confused and it might be too late lol. I didint even think to look under the truck but I have tubular cross member you show in your pic already on my truck. Does that mean I need to just add the section with the actual receiver?

Why it may be too late: I just picked up a class 4 reese hitch off craigslist, found it cheap so I just jumped on it. I am starting to think I am confused now cuz of the above pics...

This is what i picked up

I am sure the cross member is under your truck and all you need is the reciever. Good luck..

yep it is. Soooo i just bought a very heavy paper weight? or is there any benefit to having the Reese over the factory bolt on? The whole Reese hitch cost about as much as the OEM receiver would be. should I just bolt the Reese on? Or can I even bolt the Reese on with the factory cross member in place? Damn I should looked into this more lol Thanks for the help

Well, the Reese looks a little like the Hidden Hitch I have. It most likely will bolt on without removing the OEM cross member.

yea i just needed the receiver. picked it up at Uhaul for $127.00 cheapest one ive seen out there. and their instructions on putting it on was horrible. i did it all backwards and was 10x easier.

Ok thanks. I only really tow a 17' Whaler and I am sure the OEM would have been fine for that but I guess having the class 4 will keep me a little safer if I ever have to tow anything heavier. I am starting to think I may have to drill for the back 2 bolts tho, gonna hook it up tmrw and see.

The Class IV Reese hitch above only cost me $80 bucks so i am definitely not losing any sleep over it lol

Looks like the OEM Hitch needs to be removed to install this one :( I bit off more than I wanted to chew.

This is what a factory hitch looks like.
