i seen somewhere that in fl having a scanner as a mobile unit is illegal. if i can find it, ill post it, is that what your antenna is for?

that is 100% correct dude...having a mobile scanner is a nono here...in some places having a scanner at all is a nono.

thought so, but i also seen a letter by the atny general that defined a "mobile installation" just gotta find it.

i personally think its crap that we cant have them. just like alot of the other laws they prevent the law abiding citizen from using them. such as these proposed gun laws.

it looks like a cb and i leave it off 99% of the time
and as long as there isnt any police channels in the bay your fine.
but you may need a ham op licence

Does the fiberglass cap on your rig throw off the SWR's on your CB?

I have a k40 whip mounted to the center of my tool box. CB is a Cobra with PA and 100watt PA horn. With it tuned longest distance was 50ish miles on HWY. I have picked up a SC trucker when I was Orlando....MADE ME GO MMMMMMM did i really hear that or is that even possible.

i havent really checked them since i have a 102" which is a 1/4(i think) wave length, so it doesnt have to be tuned or anything, though i think i may need to add a ground strap cause i dont pick up as much as i should, if i could find a 1' section of coax, id be able to put my swr meter in and check it out. but funds have prevented me from doing so. hopefully in the next week or so ill be able to check it out.

I took my truck to a custom audio shop and they tunned it with the swr meter for like 10bucks and said if I ever had any issues come back and they will retune it again for me. Pretty cool of them to do that.

Is it possible I could of heard a trucker in SC from Orlando. I thought maybe it was bouncing off of repeater or something but straigt from semi to my cb......

man, I havent had a CB in so long...I was running a firestick on my Cobra 19....then went with a 102 whip...my buddy has an SWR meter and he tunes radios really good.

Are footwarmers still illegal?

haha i really dont think the fcc pays much attention to the avergae cber. with cell phones now and gps id say they pay more attention to those.

its not illegal to have one or make one, but it is illegal to use one.(legal til you get caught) lol.

if only i could find a cb shop around here. id really like to get mine tuned right.

The best thing about having a CB is getting the heads up on truckers that are selling stuff out of their trailers at truckstops. LOL...there are plenty of $$$ saving deals to be had there.
