Anyone on E85???

When I was at Power by the Hour, they had a Mustang there that Ken tuned and supposedley made 39whp/69wtq on the E85.

It's funny you say that, Mike. They were talking about there car making the hp/tq that my truck does and ask me the MPG on just fuel. I told em it did 12.7 MPG on the way over here. Turned out there Mustang did 10 MPG on the way. I just lol'd and said, please don't forget that my truck is 7,192lbs and on 20s.

I think one of the reasons e85 gets worse gas mileage is because it has a 100+ octane rating which is pretty much race fuel. Only problem other than that is that not every station has e85 so you have to watch your fuel level closely

Thats reasonable...but it also contains up to 30% less energy than conventional gasoline...so you will use more of it, to run your engine.

According to what I have been reading, there are less then 2800 stations in the US that sell E85...I bet alot of those are in Washington DC and Detroit...

I don't know if they do this in Florida, but in Oklahoma there's alot of stations that put 10% ethanol in their fuel and it is stupid. It's a little cheaper but who cares when it screws up your engine and gives you worse mileage

Yes, they do that here too...actually I think it's mandated in the US. The 10% Ethanol is what screws up carbs in things that sit a long time with being started. For example, my motorcycle, my scooter and my generator on my RV all have a brownish crytal-like film inside their carbs. And, because of it, all do not run properly right now. Star-Tron enzyme fuel treatment is about the best to combat it, but you have to put it in from day one.

That's why I'm going to start putting in Shell 89 octane in mine. I know it's a little more expensive but it's worth it if I don't have to worry about my motor getting screwed up because of it.

There are still places around here where you can purchase ethanol free gasoline...my uncle boats up to a marina in Hudson that sells it, but like most marina fuels you do pay a premium for it.

And yes, unleaded gasoline is federally mandated to have up to 10% ethanol blended into it. The EPA wants to soon push it to 15%, once they prove it will benefit the cause.

My thought on ethanol fuel is this...and I do not ask anybody to agree with me, it is simply my opinion. The whole ethanol deal is all about reducing our foreign dependancy on crude oil...but at what cost? We dont live in the 60's anymore where there are vast areas of farm land to be had to grow an ample amount of corn to provide for our country in the long term. Corn prices, especially corn for feed are extremely high already, so I believe that in someways, the demand for corn has already affected farmers in the cattle industry...it has for years...to the point where they are already growing their own corn for silage, simply to reduce operating costs...and the US has not even tipped the edge of where they want ethanol based fuels to be.

I fear that it will get to the point that if the US Government were to mandate ethanol fuels to where they really want it, we will simply be giving up our foreign dependancy on crude and gaining a foreign dependancy for corn, to produce fuel with and we would have to start importing corn from overseas to make up for what we need.

I have read where the price for feed corn could rise nearly $0.63 per pushel by the year 2014, due to the demand for ethanol based fuels.

They could but they always want more. Compare it to cars, is 400 hp enough for a street car? In most cases yes. But people still want 700+ hp street beasts

I been investigating a bit more and for me to make the change to E85 would take about 900 bucks'. Thats including buying fuel.


PC got a taste of what a beast this whore is yesterday. I half throttled it and kicked it sideways down MLK. Im thinking on what I have now, with cooler outside temp's, I can bang out 500whp on E85. I mean, i'm not really too far off now.

ethanol is a dream, ethanol from corn is a stupid fucking dream. corn is not a good source of fuel or even food for that matter. your body has a hard time breaking it down that is why you see whole kernels in your stool. there have been studies that show corn only being 20% efficient, meaning when they do their crap its 20% ethanol and 80% by product and waste. there are much more viable options but guess who has their greedy little hands in corn? politicians. to stop using corn and switch to something like sugar cane which is 60% efficient or wild switch grass found to be 80% efficient would take money from them. then they would have to find another way to take our money. i buy 100% gas every time i can and you all should too. there have already been bills proposed to do away with ethanol all together so i guess now would be a good time to see where you representative stand and voice your opinion in masses. my state is against ethanol and stirring up shit i love it

i dont know if its true or not but i remember reading that the amount of corn it takes to make 1 gallon of e85 could feed a grown man for a year

I hate it...ethanol that is. Only reason why my motorcycle, scooter and RV generator are screwed up right now. Of course, I didn't learn about the residue ethanol leaves behind when it sits until after they were acting up. I've also heard it deteriorates fuel lines too.

Yup thats why you have probably seen gas stations all getting new tanks over the last few years. The government told em they had to get ready for the ethanol mix by 2010, and they needed new tanks just to hold the 10% mix they sell today.
