For custom audio, post your build and estimated watts RMS. And any pics or vids you may have.

Open to ALL SEM members who have/are into custom sound systems.

Don't have one? It's ok. It's open to all who want to.

We would love more membership for input, networking on buying/selling sound gear, and how-to's on installing, upgrading and maintaining a custom sound system.

any takers?

Here is a link to the social page as well.

PC started posting some good info and links in the social section. i put the link in the first post. Paul what would you like to do?

i love doing custom audio and doing it right. when i replaced all of my factory wire i ran it all through the door grommets so you could never tell it was done it i didnt say anything but it was worth it for overall quality.

if you guys have any questions post them up we will do our best to help or get an answer. i know weedahoe isnt terribly active here but he is a great guy that will help anyone and he was a custom stero installer for many years. he has helped me tons over the years

Both my 06 SRT and my red 05 R/T are bone stock; however I do have a Boss 200 watt amp and 10" Lighting Audio speakers in BLUE ~ Not much of a system though.... not even much thump ~ LOL~

HOWEVER Tee has amps, speakers IN ALL THREE OF HER RIDES and even an indash CD/DVD player in her DEMON car. I doubt I can even remember which amps and all she has in each car...???

Well it wouldnt be too hard to rig up something to use for music, but if you want to do graphics on the spot then you would want a decent screen to go with it, the Tech side of it wouldnt be too difficult, it would be mostly fab work to get the screen somewhere you can control the music but it be comfortable to use on the PS stuff.

The computer itself wouldnt be super pricey or anything since you want something that doesnt draw a huge amount of power, a custom PC would be best probably.

Daniel those mac minis are perfect for auto applications. i have a bad ass plan that involves some major fab in operation beauty is on the inside. i think weedahoe stole my idea and installed a full computer into his ram. there are programs, free programs, that will allow you to run you pc in your auto, manage media, and even monitor gauges via obdII port. fun stuff there.

Paul this day and age its pretty easy to add dvd to a stock ride. you could look into staying stock and getting something like the mygig unit dodge makes or get a decent double din touch screen for the 3-500.00 range. flip out are another option but i stay away from them because moving parts can fail. you can add a little bump to a stock unit with a 15.00 part or most aftermarket HU have rca jacks just for that purpose. a little bit of reseach and time can save you literally hundreds on install and overall price.

when i do installs i do most of the connections in my living room, then just go plug everything in and bolt it all down

a plan is the most important part of the install. the more variables you remove the more you will enjoy doing it

http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/mikereeder80/mygig-mod.jpg

you can google them for a list of features but i know they have 30gig of internal storage for music and pics. i think you have to have the uconnect to be able to make phone calls through it. they run about 650.00 is and i dont know what would be involved for install. maybe pug and play may need the mygig lock pick. if you were closer i would do all the install for the fun of it.

Yesterday a friend gave us a sealed box that he no longer needed. On Tee's car CHANCE she had a ported box that, for some reason, the speakers just did not sound good, so I replaced that with a sealed box I had stored but it have NEVER been carperted and we are getting saw dust around in the back. This box our friend gave us IS also sealed and carperted, just needs a good cleaning and some carpet glued back down..... SO when I get the time, I'm gonna clean it up, glue carpet back down and maybe put THIS ONE in Tee's car CHANCE and remove the uncarpeted box. Pretty cool deal.

P.S. I'm NO stereo guy; don't know anything about installations or what speakers to us etc, etc. However I can change speakers from one box to another. I don't undertand why some speakers sound better in ported or sealed boxes.

OklaHemi

BUT... the sky looks very threating so don't dare to start anything that might take some time, however I may go to the garage and start cleaning up the sealed box.... being stored it's kinda dirty, dust and grass inside and outside; nothing a vacuum won't take care of and then to glue down the carpet edges and getter' ready to switch speakers.

I guess I'll be joining this club sooner than I expected. My factory stereo does not have an aux jack. So, I had a scosche iPod interface module installed behind my stereo in order to play my iPod, via selecting my DVD input.

Well, the module is now fried. I do not care much for listening to the radio, so my iPod is my on the road entertainment. Thus, it appears the stereo upgrade has just moved up on the mod list. Now to decide which stereo I want....

Well, the best price I can find for this Kenwood I want is on eBay...beat sonic electronix's price by $250 and crutchfield by $500+. But, Kenwood will not honor a warranty claim (if needed) unless purchased from an authorized Kenwood dealer. So, I emailed one of the companys selling them and asked "are you an authorized Kenwood dealer". They respond "yes, we are an authorized Kenwood dealer". I email Kenwood with their company name and ask "is this company (insert company name here) an authorized Kenwood dealer?". Kenwood replies "No, they are not and if you buy from them we will not honor any warranty claims for whatever product(s) you purchase from them".

Guess I will keep shopping or buy from sonic.

Ok, so I haven't had much luck with the stereo system in my everyday driver. Jimmie gave me his Kicker 12 Comps and we had them professional installed including the MTX400 amp. Sounded fantastic for about a month and one day saw smoke coming from one speaker, took it back to stereo shop and the guy just said, oh well, must have been a bad speaker and hooked up just the one left. About a week later that one quit. So NOW I have purchased Rockford Fosgate 12's and put them in my ported box and they sounded OK but NOT like the Kickers did. So I asked Jimmie if he had a sealed box and he gave me his old one which had never been carpeted and WOW, this really sounded great. Then about a week later a friend gave me his sealed box that was carpeted and sealed better than the other box, just a hair smaller and NOW I'm finished and it sounds Great.
Thanks to Jimmie for keeping changing everything out.

This is what my transformation looks like:

I started off with this ported box with the kickers:
http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/ab44/TEEPUD/DSCN0290.jpg

Then we changed the bad Kickers to the Rockford fosgate:
http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/ab44/TEEPUD/DSCN0232.jpg

Then changed to a seal box that was never carpeted:
http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/ab44/TEEPUD/DSCN0093-1.jpg

Finally took these out and switched the box to the carpeted box:

Infinity Basslink, pretty sure it was at least 5 years old. Got it when my dad got his 04 dually awhile back, it was good for what it was though.

i wouldnt fuse the alt or starter, i honestly dont see what that would help. i have never looked inside the engine compartment of a neon changing the alt on a ram only takes about 15 min.

did you run you power wires and signal wires on different side of the vehicle? i got noise just because the amp power wire for the subs was a little too long and was sitting on top of the rca wires for the door speaker amp.

OklaHemi

i always do.

that may help and is reccomended but i have always used the factory ground with no problems. make sure that all of your grounds are as short as possible and are connected to bare metal.

Pc, in all the electrical knowledge I have, I think fusing the starter and alternator, would lead to more of a hassle and or problems, cause say its cold and it wants to start hard it will blow the fuse, I even consulted my coworker on this and he said the same, he's been a electrical tech for 25 yrs...

No changes here, I have to fix a ground wire off the battery, and I am installing new terminals at the same time, which will lead to the big 3 upgrade later.

Why didn't they just bridge the amp to two channels? for your subs or are you running some thing else on the amp? Also what bells and whistles does the visionix amp have? I don't know much about there amp's.
