Found a set of their classic II's on cl this morning for $400 with tires. Probably gonna pick them up if they're in good shape. Anyone have any experience with their wheels? The guy says they need to be polished but if I get them, they'll be black before they hit my truck anyways
Here's a pic of the wheels from google

What size are they, and will they fit your truck?

txbass06

They're 16x10's and are listed as a 5-lug dodge bolt pattern. The seller has the same size tire mounted on them already so if I do decide on them, I'll take a jack and 4-way with me just to be safe

Being lifted you have more flexibility with wheel selection. What do you use for backspacing, 4.5 inches?

txbass06

I think so? I'm still running the factory wheels but I still rub my upper control arms on full lock.

As long as the back spacing isnt too much, I'd say get them...you run too much backspacing and you will be replacing wheel bearings alot...lol...

Adam you thinking backwards. The stock wheels probably have something like 5.5 inch BS and that is why he's rubbing. 4.5 inch bs will move the wheel out and will clear the A arms.

okay, so too little of backspacing then?

Internet is down at the house so I'm stuck with the phone but from what I see online, they only made this style wheel with 4.5" backspacing. This should be enough to fix the rubbing.

Have you seen the Jegs brand Baja 8's? They are cheaper and look just like the soft 8's.

nah i dont look at truck rims anymore lol those are just the ones i remember since hammer swears by them :D

So Mark are you going after the used MT's, new Cragar soft 8's or Jegs baja 8's? I think all would look good on your truck, providing you actually black out the MT's before they go on your truck. It does appear that the MT's are aluminum and I believe the soft 8's and baja 8's are both steelies.

The Mickey's are aluminum and the others are steel. I emailed and text the guy with them this morning. Said he was out of town and would get his wife to send me some pics of the wheels and tires. If any of the tires are worth keeping, I'll probably go that route. If not, I'll probably pick up some of the cragar's in a couple of weeks

Finally got a single pic from the guy. Good thing I'm going black cause I don't think much of the shine could be saved on these

txbass06

Lol no kidding. They used to be dirt cheap until everyone and their moms realized it lol

If there is any tread left on any, I'll mount them on my factory wheels and keep them for a full-size spare just in case

there ya go...same thing with the MiltiMile Wild Country MT tires...in 2001 I bought a BRAND new set of 33x12.50/16.5 for $400 installed on my F250...go price them now, they are up there in price now, I dont think you can get 3 tires for $400...

I use to run Multi-miles and Grand Am Radial G/T's.

Mark, you might need new center caps unless that is just surface rust and hasn't started to pit. I know you're gonna paint them black, and after seeing them I think you need to. Have they been off the truck just sitting outside?

SmokedRam
07-19-2011, 08:33 PM
Even if you dont reuse those buckshots, if they are still in the condition they are in that pic, you can get $100 out of them easily if you resell...

Multi-Mile tires are good tires, they are just overlooked by people going with BFG's and GoodYears...that set of MT's I bought, had almost the exact same tread pattern of the current (at the time) BFG MT's

^ exactly. i got great mileage outta the sets i had back in the day. Nowadays they are not much cheaper than major brands, which is partly why people don't buy them as much.

You couldnt give me a set of those buckshots. That has got to be the worst road tire I have ever ridden on. They do real good off road though. Those mickeys have such a classic look on our 2nd gens, And if you paint em black it will be just what your truck needs.

I don't understand this guys train of thought. He said the front hubs were bad, which is why two of then wore unevenly. I'm assuming the rears are decent though. But he said he yanked the axles out from under the truck when the hubs went...

I'll probably need new center caps. But I'll live with these for now. And yeah, they'll get a couple coats of something black lol. Tryin to Jew him down a little. I'm not gonna pay any more than $300 for them when I can get a set of the cragar's for about the same. Just waitin on a reply now

I'm payin $200 for the wheels. He had a buyer for the tires and they'd just be more trouble for me in the long run.
Adam, I'm closer to Mike than you lol. But he's still like 5 hours away from me. There's a few places around here that do them and one in Dallas that does them for $200 a set with a forum discount I just happen to be a member of :D

Thats the route I would go, rather than PD'ing them...I would go with chrome center caps and chrome lugs though...make it contrast a lil.

txbass06

I'll definitely leave a little for contrast. If I decide on an accent color for my truck, I'll get the lip and MT in the cap done in that color and the rest black

Here's a couple of pics of the wheels. I think I'm gonna just clean them up and mount them how they are. I can't wait to get them coated since I don't know how long it'll be before I've got the extra cash to make two 500 mile round trips to get it done

txbass06
07-26-2011, 11:19 AM
They should. There's only a few spots of surface rust where the weights were mounted but I should be able to get that out with some wd-40 and some steel wool. I think I'm gonna polish one and pd another and see which I like better

So much for these damn things cleaning up...

This is after almost 4 hours of work
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr116/txbass06/Dodge/32471c59.jpg

So it looks like they're getting pd'd. There's no way I could get them as clean as the new center caps anyways

When you PD them, leave the inside of the holes undone....it would look sweet...

txbass06
08-03-2011, 11:37 PM
I was thinking of doin that. I'm gonna scuff up the MT and the design next to it and leave it silver too. That with the lugs should be enough of a contrast, don't ya think?

One of these wheels might be a lost cause. The only thing I haven't tried is sanding or having them media blasted but I'm worried that would mess them up since they're aluminum

http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr116/txbass06/Dodge/cf42135e.jpg

I spent all morning on this one wheel trying to get this black shit off of there. Everything from an aluminum wheel cleaner, to some degreaser and even had some mild acid they use to clean the inside of aluminum tanks and nothing

txbass06
08-04-2011, 05:30 PM
Yeah I know... It's like it's just baked on brake dust. And it's only this one wheel. The other three just need a good polish and they'd be like new. I'm gonna ask around a couple detail places here in town and see if anyone has anything that will get it off before I go any farther
