RamIt's New Tails

Well while at Lee's today installing "Big Girls" cab lights, some guy posted a set of Blacked out LED Tail lights. I told Lee I didnt have the money, so he could have them, and he wanted them, so I emailed the guy and told him that they were SOLD...he took down the CL ad and on my way home, Lee stopped at the ATM to pull out money to give me to pick them up for him. I was going to bring them up to Wiregrass next weekend and they were gonna go on Big Girl....so on my way to meet the guy with the tails, Lee texts me and told me to keep them as a thanks for helping him install his cab lights....

Im still speechless!!!! Lee, thank you so much!

Here are a couple quick pics...I need to splice them into my factory harness because they came off of a 2006 and its a different plug on the light...

Those look like mine Kevin, they maybe sonar brand. See if you can't order a 06 plug and our plug 2. Of each and I can make a jumper plug so you don't have to cut yours, or just save your plugs

Was looking them up online last night and they sell for about 200 bucks...

So how do the Sonars compare to the Recons? The Recons cost about $50 more. And not sure about the Sonars but the Recons do not come with white LED reverse bulbs. They cost about $15 each.

So, are the Recons worth $50 to possibly $80 more?

I'm leaning toward probably not worth the extra money and just get Sonar...if I buy new.

Honestly I don't know how they compare, they do look similar, the quality of sonar seems to be pretty good, I had to shim mine for a snug perfect fit, but that didn't bother me, and the light output is great, I think they came with white led reverse lights too, I think I'm going to have mine retinted for a blacker look, using a transparent black auto paint....

Kevin, if you don't have these installed by Wiregrass, please bring them with you so I can see them first hand. I've heard, and pics I've found online appear to show, that the Recons look "chromish" when the sun hits them just right. I don't want any chromish look.

Well lee we just have my buddy tint them more, mine show some Chrome when the sun hits and I want them blacker so I'm having mine redone soon
He uses a transparent black, not a mix of clear and black like most use and what's on mine now....

According to this, the single harness was used through '06 and change to two in '07. Are you sure that guy's truck was an '06 and not an '07?

The following is from a member on another forum I am on. He is listed as a Dodge Ram Lighting/Wiring Expert.

ok the tail lights you have are from a 07-up so obviously they wont work on your 06 without the wiring harness i make to convert trucks to use the 07 and up tails, i would offer you on but i dont have any built and they arent really that cheap to make so it comes down to how much your willing to spend, the easiest thing for you to do is sell them as the 07 tails they are and buy some 06 and under ones, i know thats not what you wnat to hear, but it is what it is, now there are other ways to make these work on your truck, but those methods would be called more "redneck" or "bubba" mods, and you would have to have some wiring skills to make em work as well, what ive done for someone who wanted the 07-up LED tails on their truck and wanted it cheap, we wired up the brake feed from the truck to the brake feed on the tail light, and his blinker feed from his truck to the reverse light and then stuck an amber bulb in the reverse light housing, now yes this removes having the reverse light, in the tail light, but TRUST ME you wouldnt be loosing much, the reverse lights in the smoked LED tails SUCK at best and you almost always need an aux reverse light if you do alot of night time backing up, which the guy i did this for had lights under his bumper, but in all honesty if your just a regular guy backing out of his driveway and such then you could use the red from the brake lights to back up if you just had too, they are plenty bright. now i can help you do any of these options if you like, let me know what you wana do and we will make it work on your truck
