I tried to drive my truck earlier and it wouldnt shift... a relay was loose and it was in the rear heater relay port. My phone read the codes, here they are. Is it because of that loose relay? Think a pcm reset would fix it?

IIRC there is no relay for the shift solenoids...usually, they just need to be replaced. they are a common prob with our gen2 trans.

Fluid level is critcal. needs to be dead on in nuetral.

Thats why i want to get the Charger running and just start driving that

Well I went to Advance Auto and got a new relay for $14. Hoping this will fix,it along with a pcm reset. A new solenoid is $33 there if it comes to that. Im gonna start going there now other than oreilleys or autozone, they are rude and never have anything in stock. Advance has everything in stock and the people there are cool

From what I have read, the solenoids are easy to change, as they are "supposed" to be right under the filter...I am reading where it is best to change out all the solenoids rather than just one...and do the filter and gasket at the same time.

I am not familiar with the 2nd gens, but I hope you get it figured out!

Well me and my dad looked at the transmisson relay port and it looks like one used to be there. Not sure where it went but we put the relay in there and now we are resetting the pcm. Gonna wait about 15 minutes then try it out. Wish me luck!

where is the trans relay port on our trucks colton? and how exactly do we reset our PCM?

ramthis9501

Its in the fuse box under the hood

And there was no relay there, hoping this new one will fix it

And you reset the pcm by just unhooking the negative battery cable and leaving it for about 20 minutes

I googled it and most say to disconnect it and turn the ignition to ON for 20-30 seconds and it resets it...I wonder how often a PCM on our trucks should be reset? I have never reset mine...

You should never have to reset it unless something is wrong (like in Colton's case), or you are trying to clear a CEL. I always just un hook the neg battery terminal and turn the head lights on for about 30 seconds. Then wait another 10 minutes for all of the capacitors to lose their charge.

Hope you get it figured out.

Alright well here's what happened: Last night while I was putting it the led domelight, I thought I blew a fuse. Well I pulled the cover off the fuse panel under the engine bay and a screw that I put on there awhile back went into the relay and pulled it out. Being myself, didn't pay attention to where it came out, thought it was a rear heater relay. That wasn't it, it came out of the TRANSMISSION RELAY. I went to Advance, got a new relay came home and put it in. Went for a drive and it shifted as smooth as can be :pedobear: This is what I read up on it: It threw a code called P0753, and this is what it said... "Trans 3-4 Shift Sol/Trans Relay Circuits - An open or shorted condition detected in the overdrive solenoid control circuit or Trans Relay Circuit."
What happens is when the relay isn't there, it throws the truck into limp mode, which is automatically 3rd gear. Will not shift up or down. That's why I could get it up to 65 without blowing the motor. So without the relay, the pcm can't connect with the transmission and in turn the solenoid won't connect either. So all in all it's fixed! For heads up just make sure you have a relay in your transmission relay port and you'll be good to go!

Threads are good, post are better, tags are great. If you can finish up an old thread please do it. It will help keep the forum in order. Im not saying to hold back on new threads but don't have more than one for the same issue and tag as much as you can with relevance. It helps in the google search. And you can tag any thread not just your own

Oh btw glad you got it sorted, drive on.

Im not sure on the 2nd gens or even the 3rd gen non hemis but I rest mine every oil change for good measure and with every performance mod. The computers learn and set driving parameters after so long this cleans them out.
