the best way to do it...is go in quarters...and gradually increase it every other day or so...

day one and two: 3/4 old food and 1/4 new

day three and four: 1/2 old, 1/2 new

day five and six: 1/4 old, 3/4 new

day seven 100% new

That is really up to you just try to avoid free feeding...I feed twice a day....morning and evening...try to keep it at the same time everyday.

Damn! Adam knows friggin everything...he's right again. LOL. It's best to feed a dog once a day and close to the same time each day (twice a day at the most). Leaving food in a bowl and letting them eat when they want throughout the day is not good. Damn, I can't believe I learned something from my ex but this is how I know this info, she was a vet tech for many years.

Our 65 pound hound mix and 50 pound aussie got one cup a day to eat, and a treat each time they went outside and relieved themselves.

And a premium dry food made with lamb, rice and veggies is the best choice.

Lee is correct about free feeding (just leaving the food bowl full)...the first sign of illness in a dog is a loss of appetite. So if someone free feeds, there is no way to judge loss of appetite.

i feed Titan 4 times a day 1 cup a piece + some wet and/or salmon powder mixed in, he is a growing pup. he gets treats during training which is usually around 30 min a day. he know voice commands and now sign language for all trick. my favorite one is the ringing the bell to go outside. priceless

If yall can afford it, I know I cant, but Taste of the Wild is a REALLY good food. And Mike, yeah thats a good feeding routine til they get up to about 3 months old. Any age over that, two feedings per day is more than enough. Especially with a high protein diet, you dont want them getting too big. especially if your dogs starts to show traits of not being as "active" as they were as a pup.

Im not trying to tell yall how to do your thing...im just relaying what I have learned by talking to old time dog men.

oh no its all good adam. i have spent so much time researching and talking to his vet. i want this dog to be healthy for ever. he is a lazy dog by his nature but he is easily motivated to play. i just increased his food intake from 3 to 4 because of how fast he is growing, he is 40lbs already shit. he is getting some raw to night and doesnt even know it.

I fed the dogs earlier so I'll do it again when i get back later. My little dog isnt really eating that much though, so im gonna have to see about that. But i did notice that Dodges appetite went way up just from feeding him that new food

The stuff is good, IMO one of the top 5 best foods on the market...the Pacific Stream and High Prairie are the favs among the Amstaff/APBT breeders...the stuff is great and 100% grain free.

I mean, look at the ingredients they have:

thanks adam. i dont have a future collar in mind yet but i do have his next leash pick out. its a 2' either 3/8's or 1/2" chain with a poly handle. it screams bad ass dog

It gets it's protein from other sources that the less expensive foods dont...ie, bison...ocean fish...stuff like that.

Your basic foods are gonna get their protein from either beef, chicken or lamb...the more expensive ones will get them from fish and other animals...thats where the added cost somes in. Also, look at the vegetables in the Call of the Wild foods...that is not cheap for a company to do. IIRC, the people who make Call of the Wild, also make the Diamond.

The thing about ocean fish, is that like lamb, it is nearly allergy proof.


Since yall guys are in the middle or about to begin to switch foods, if your dog becomes scoury, take them off the food and feed them white rice with chicken broth for 24 hours, then GRADUALLY get them back onto the kibble.

dont be confused with them "eating as much as they should" when going from a low quality food to a high quality food. The Diamond you are now feeding will satisfy them much better than what you were feeding and it will satisfy them in less amounts.

Think of it this way....what you were feeding is a $0.39 McDonalds cheesburger...what you are feeding now, is a $5.99 cheesburger from a high class restaurant...sure they both contain meat, but is the McDonalds burger 100% beef? I doubt it, for all you know it is freaking Kangaroo.

totally unrelated, but I wanna share since it is about switching animal feed, I raised hogs for FFA in high school and when we switched foods from a starter feed to a grower, sometimes the hogs would scour...surprisingly, the digestive systems of swine are VERY similar to us humans, and we would simply feed them Pepto Bismol to rid them of the scours.
