So some of you I allready told about this but for since about Feb I have been having this problem where every time I fill the truck up with gas it will stall on me after I drive away. Ive done tons of research and narrowed it down to 3 things.

1. Could be a bad valve on top of the gas tank, but to fix this it would requrie replacing the entire tank because that valve is molded in.

2. Could be a bad vapor canister.

3. Could be a bad vapor purge solenoid.

So today I decided to take off the vapor canister and the purge solenoid, I cant see anything wrong but I am going to replace both of these since they are allready off and they are easier to do.

Anybody ever heard of this problem before?

Yeah at first I thought it was bad gas, and I stopped going to that gas station but now it is doing it almost every time I fill up, so now I run it till empty and only put 20 gallons in.

My wife had an '04 Mazda that started doing this every time we'd take the fuel cap off. You'd have to hold the gas pedal down for it to start and it would run really lean for a few seconds while it built pressure back up. After fighting with the dealer 5 times, they listened to be and replaced the purge valve and fixed our problem

never heard of it... damn i hope it gets sorted quick and you dont have to replace the tank, but then you could strap the 34 gal under there

The thought had occurred to me Mike lol

I just hope the dealer parts department is open on saturdays, otherwise the truck is blockin the driveway all weekend. I dont really wanna drive it with that stuff taken out.

Seen the symptoms twice myself, one an '02 4.7 Ram the other an '05 Hemi. But both trucks had a PO441 code. One was fixed with a new purge solenoid, the other if I remember right needed a new PCM.

BTW, I guessed wrong both times. I was sure it was gonna be a cracked hose or broken clamp somewhere in the evap system...

if u keep running it till empty u will need a new fuel pump too...

Well I hope I am on the right track then with the purge solenoid, I dont see how it could be the PCM though, that would be scary

i run and have ran every ram i have owned to empty and have never once had a problem with the fuel system. you know the rams have a 2 gal reserve tank and when the overhead say 0 dte you still have 2 gal. i seriously dont believe that to be a problem on our rams. like i said i always run my tank to the light is on and most times past the 0 dte.

It might be fixed!!!!

I replaced the two parts and went and drove it around till it warmed up and went and filled it up and it didnt stall, so hopefully that fixed it. Still gotta be careful for the next few tanks.

I wonder if that's the same on the 4th gens. Sometimes mine will get to where it says low fuel on my evic which is after it says 10 miles to empty. Always wondered how much was reserve

All cars show empty when they have several gallons left, this is for the idiots who forget to check

So in actuality our 26 gallon tanks are more like 28?

AWE Daniel

No it shows empty when there are 2 gallons left, that is why you will almost never put in 26 gallons at the pump

No... it says empty after about 23 gallons, so you have another 2-3 gallons left. It's a 26 gallon tank

I meant going on the evic. Like mine will say 10 miles to empty and then will say low fuel right after that. When I fill up right after it says low fuel, I put in about 25.5-26 gallons. So if I have about 10 miles to empty that means I should have about .7 gallons left(based on 14 mpg). So that's about 26.2-26.7 gallons

ramthis9501

Even the mileage thing is off, when it says zero you still have two gallons left

not sure on the 4th gens only the 3rd. i have never gotten over 24 gallons in it and i have driven well past the 0 dte on the overhead.
