wild kittens

I am not a cat lover. I'm inside the house and I hear my wife's small dog raising hell outside which is unusual. I go check it out and there are three kittens in a flower bed in full combat mode. Funny hisssing and spitting. I have seen a grown female roaming the area but I didn't think about her having kittens. I tell the dog to come on and leave the kittens alone. And go work on the truck. Later I see the dog being followed by the kittens. The dog is trying to get away but they have found a new friend. Finally they come over and get stepped on a few times being under foot. These are feral cats and they are absolutely fearless. I don't get it... we have lots of foxes running around. Foxes love cats, So I guess it will all work out in the end.. When we first moved into our current house, the neighbor, bing a cat lover fed the feral cats. At first I didnt mind it, I though to each their own...however, alot of them would hang out by our house, under our house and under our shed...they began to have kittens, which, died under our house and under our shed...it was horrible. Bad thing is, the county, which operates animal control in our area, will not come and get feral cats. We have to go to Land O Lakes, get traps and then take the cats and traps back to Land O Lakes.

I had a couple traps, so I tried to catch them, but rather than turn them into the county who would put the cats down, I called an animal rescue and they agreed to take what I trapped. But, the cats were smart, almost like they knew that they were gonna get trapped. In a two week period I trapped a 25 pound coon and only 2 of about 25 cats.

Now, our other neighbor has been warned by animal control to stop feeding the cats and the feral cat problem we had is down to about 2 or 3 cats.

Cats can get outta hand if they don't have anything to keep them in check. My main beef with them is they are really tough on game birds. But I don't need to get involved, nature will do it's thing. I'm a 1/4 mile off the road surrounded by woods.

The apartments I work at had a cat problem. Everyone was feeding them and then they started having more kittens. We have a resident that took it upon herself to catch them. I about 3 weeks she had caught a majority of them and 3 that were going to have kittens. Our animal control comes out and gets them and then returns the traps the next morning.
