I generally don't like mileage threads as it always seems we are reporting a decline in mileage. I don't get Red out on the highway enough to get any kind of reasonable mileage, but I promised a guy to carry a set of tires to Tidewater plus visit the grand kids. The newest mod is the 6.1 dual coil setup and the engine really feels crisp. Filled it up with 93 as I run the SC on a 91 tune and off I went. I really don't know how many gals are used when the needle sit on the center mark but if I've been playing it can be as low as 170 miles, normal driving it is about 200 miles and today it was 245. I have had my truck since new and before the bigger tires and TC I have seen 230, but not for a long time. Amazing what a locked up converter running at 65 mph (2000 rpm) will do.

so the 6.1 coils increased mileage?

Mike, That is my guess, out of the recent mods it is the only one that might have improved mileage.

Have you done any calculations to see what your actual mpg's are?

Not really recently, but generally hand calculated it was 12-15 mpg. If I go to town tomorrow I'll fuel it and do the math.

Edit: I filled it up and did the math, 18.58 mpg. I've thought about it and the only things that are new that could effect the mileage is the 6.1 dual coil upgrade and I pulled the Transgo style resistor for the LP booster mod. This is probably a one tank deal, but still it was a pleasant surprise to get that kind of mileage with the mods I have. I will now pay closer attention to LP boost and mileage, to see I there is any relationship. I'm not chasing high mileage but would certainly like to know what affects it in a negetive way.

I'll bump this for my edit will show. 18.58 mpg is a new best for Red....

Way to go. My horse is only getting 10-12 with a 5.9L and 4 wheel drive.

With as much as the LP fluctuates and as low as it gets during cruise I am really starting to wonder if there may be a relationship. I have run Line booster for at least 5 years.

That's interesting. I just swapped out my plug wires to MSD 8.5mm. It's too early to be sure, but on a weekend trip, I got 14.4 mpg averaging 78 mph. That's too much improvement to be a result of the one change. Still, that's a better than 8% increase, plus that may be the highest average speed ever on a trip. Hard to believe, so the jury's still out.

The mileage is holding, I just checked again and got 16.3 mpg and have been doing some testing and running back and forth from town which is not that good for mileage. I got no bitch with 16.3 mpg and am actually surprised.

thats great greg, I have noticed mine come down a little to but I have been told that I am over due on changing out my sparkplugs so that is probably the reason why, When I went to the show friday night I was getting 18.3 but it was all flat driving with no traffic around 5 pm as you know there arn't to many hills or mts here
