I can't handle anything larger than a medium size town. Standard array of 12ga's including a WWI trenchgun. Original CAR15 and a couple buffalo guns (45-70's). living in the country always include's a couple work guns. Wasn't long ago the first mod a truck got was a gun rack. Hell the high school parking lot probably had a half dozen guns or more laying up the kid's trucks. Times have changed.

There was a lot of trenchguns that were part of the various overseas Embassy arsenals. They came on the market in the 80's when there was a general upgrade of weapons. Storytime: back in the day in the 60's 70"s European surplus arms were strapped to pallets and sold by the pound. The price in some areas was based on the going price of a pound of fresh "hot dogs". If you see one of these old guns today they sell for about $150-$250. They were so cheap that the shop owner used pallets of these guns as rebar in the floor of the new gun shop he built.

I found what I want, its a Full Size 5" 1911 but in a .22, for shooting junk and targets, you can buy a shit ton of .22 ammo for the price of the big stuff. I handled one at the gun shop yesterday and it has the same weight and feels just like the Springfield .45. The one I want has an olive green finish with the wood handles. Its a nice gun.

This Thread hasnt been very busy so I guess i will try to start it back up with what I have been doing recently.

In November I did my class for my Concealed Permit, and received it in the mail just before Christmas. Well my brother has a Beretta PX4 Storm Subcompact 9mm, which is an awesome conceal carry gun. Since he has to carry his Ruger P95 for his job, he never got the chance to do anything with the Beretta, since his job does not allow for Backup guns (Lame). So I have been carrying it for the last few weeks. Another thing is that since he got the gun about 6 months ago, we havent gone shooting, so we never shot it.

So today he had to do his Requalifications for his license, so I tagged along for the free range time (and reduction of range rules :jester:), and to shoot the gun I have been carrying for the past few weeks.

This Beretta is Frickin AWESOME! It has a nice easy trigger pull, and is pretty damn accurate for a handgun with a 3" barrel. Now I am by no means at all a great handgun shooter, but this thing was about the easiest for me to shoot so far. I still need far more practice, i still have something up with my grip or trigger pull that makes me drift to the left some, but I am very happy with this Gun right now. 100 rounds through it and not a single problem, works and feels like a champ!

Also I made a custom leather holster for it, using a Tandy Leather Holster Kit. Its pretty simple to do, the leather molds around the gun for a perfect fit. I made it so it goes inside the waistband so I dont have to worry about my shirt riding up all the time. I stained the leather and waxed it and waterproofed it as well. It is super comfortable and I am loving it so far.

So here are some pics!

Holster

What the little bugger looks like

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r74/cadillac360/imagesqtbnANd9GcSoNGyy14elBEs2QOeLA.jpg

And the targets I shot today, the first 2 are at 7 yards, and the last one is at 25 yards, just for fun.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r74/cadillac360/100_0529.jpg

^^^^^Notice the two rips at the top of this one? I rolled the top of this target up a little more than the other one, and accidently hit the hanger which is triangle shaped, and it kinda split the bullet lol, oops!

NICE 1911!!

get one chambered in 5.56 as it can shoot both. the .223 version cant shoot 5.56 as it(5.56) is slightly (fractions of an inch) larger than the .223

Most of the Bushmaster AR's are chambered for both

Thanks Lee. I've been hearing that a lot lately lol

that is semi correct, if its chambered in 5.56 you can shoot both, if its chambered in .223 you can only shoot .223 as they(.223) are slightly smaller(fractions of an inch) than the 5.56.

you can shoot .223 from a 5.56 rifle, but it will be slightly less accurate, another thing to consider is the cheap russian ammo.

Make sure you buy the zinc plated steel cases and not the laquer coated ones as the laquer heats up when the casing expands upon firing and over time you casings wont eject and youll have problems.

brass is really the best way to go, but not exactly the cheapest.

the main reason being that the brass is softer than the steel and it expands to the chamber walls quicker and allows all the gasses to be sent forward allowing the rifle to cycle properly.

Guess I haven't been back on here to say that I did buy the Smith & Wesson Body Guard 38 and I really love it. I have NOT fired it as of yet. A few days ago I heard some noise around the house and I grabbed the gun, a flash light and headed out after turning on the laser. That is SO COOL... It shines really far and NOT sure IF anyone was really messing around out there as I saw no body... however, IF they were and saw THAT LASER... they may have just hauled A$$... ~LOL~

Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my rifle and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

The gold leaf was done by a Glock Armorer years ago. He also chromed all the metal parts, installed night sights, a stronger recoil spring and also installed a 3.5 lb trigger. Kevin was doing his M & P in blue recently and it looks really good against the black.

I don't carry the G30 anymore but when I did I used a small of the back holster. I now carry my Kimber Custom Shop Ultra Covert II in a Crossbreed SuperTuck, which is an absolutely awesome holster...well worth the money.

In regard to the holsters you provided links for, I don't like nor would I recommend the second or third links. However, the first one is not bad. I have carried a few guns in Fobus Kydex holsters and they are good for the $30 price tag.

02Steve1990
06-27-2012, 07:13 PM
I have heard a lot of good about the supertuck..I may get it eventually, however it's like a 6 week wait or something like that. But I'll probably end up getting the one in the first link just to have a IWB/OWB holster that accommodates the tactical light..then I may get the supertuck.

06-27-2012, 07:16 PM
It's an awesome holster. I have bought countless concealment holsters over the years and it is the best I've owned by far. It has a lifetime warranty (Kevin can attest how good their warranty claim process is) and you can try it for 30 days and send it back for a full refund if you don't like it.

4XLGator

I got the steel clips they come with. Crossbreed sent Kevin the standard steel clips and J-clips too, for his warranty claim, but I believe he said he put the steel clip back on the holster.

Am I correct, Kevin?

By the way, I did upgrade to the horsehide because of our hot Florida weather. But Kevin's is the cowhide and he hasn't had any issues with it in the Florida heat.

That's a nice looking holster, Jay.

And Steve, the Crossbreed is also adjustable in cant and rise.

I like the Old Faithful kit. I need to adjust the clips do it rides better, and swap said clips for kydex ones, the metal ones dig into me. It is very Crossbreed, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

Damn that was a good deal, I love 1911s. Closest thing I've shot that felt anything like one was a Beretta PX4 Full size .45. I keep trying to convince my brother he should carry one at work, but he seems to be set on a glock, because they make so much duty gear for them.

To be honest, I'd probably carry a glock if I was in law enforcement for that same reason. Maybe one of the Springfield XD's...

This is the second 1911 I own lol.
We have a Shooters Arms brand commander size 1911 at work I'm thinking about picking up too

Yeah I understand that too, but I just can't get over how they shoot. They do make the proper gear for the Beretta but since it's not mega popular it's still pretty expensive.

I've never been a fan of the looks or feel of any of the Glocks. I had a gen 4 26 on layaway at work around Christmas and the more I held it, the less I liked it.
I'll stick to my 1911's and wheel guns lol

I had an XDm...hard to beat outta the box with match grade barrel and trigger. It was a 5.25" barrel and held 19 rounds in the mag and 1 in the gut. Needless to say it was a FULL size. Great gun though, hated to sell it.

That's a nice looking 1911, Mark. Hard to believe it only cost $260 and change. What brand is it?

Thanks Lee. It's just a Rock Island Armory that someone pawned and lost at my job.
There's been a few things I've wanted to try on my other 1911 but didn't want to screw it up so now I've got a new guinea pig for my ideas lol
